The Legacy Years
Somewhere along the way, society sold us a story: That life after 40 is about winding down. That our most ambitious years are behind us. That the future is about maintaining, not building.
That story is wrong. And that is why I have put together the Midlife On Your Terms Audio Summit https://www.theleaptolead.com/summit And it’s not too late to tune in :-)
Because in reality, midlife is a turning point… not an endpoint. It’s a season of opportunity, clarity, and purpose. Far from being the beginning of the end, it can be the beginning of your legacy years, the chapter where you build wealth and meaning, on your terms.
By the time you reach your 40s and beyond, you've already lived, learned, stretched, and survived. You've navigated careers, raised families, supported others, and faced your share of hard decisions. That experience? It's your capital. And it’s invaluable. Trisha challenges us inside the Summit to apply our wisdom in a way that improves the world around us, and she gives us a great framework to helps us do just that.
Midlife is the point where you begin asking different questions, and trust me when I say these questions are not signs of a crisis, they are signs of you being conscious of the stage you’re at.
* What am I leaving behind?
* How do I want to be remembered?
* What kind of impact do I want to make… with my time, my voice, my money?
Amel helps us work through this inside the summit when she asks “What Do You Want To Be Known For?”
But let’s get really honest, wealth in midlife is about more than income or savings. It’s about freedom. Choices. Peace of mind. The ability to support what matters most to you.
Of course, building financial wealth still matters. It’s the fuel that gives you options. It enables you to:
* Invest in your own business.
* Support your family with confidence.
* Fund causes you care about.
* Build a retirement that’s rich in both security and joy.
And for women, especially, wealth is power. It’s agency. And it’s a tool for reshaping the world around us, for the better. Inside the summit Dr Kari Odermann gives us lots of ideas for how we can impact the geopolitical landscape and why our voices as women are so vital right now.
The idea that your best work is behind you is a myth. In fact, research consistently shows that many entrepreneurs and leaders hit their stride in their 40s, 50s, and beyond. Why? Because midlife brings a mix of emotional intelligence, life perspective, and drive for meaning, not just achievement. Sarah Black shares inside the summit why because of this, as women we need to be engaging with AI. If we don’t we run the risk of AI being shaped without the voice of the largest demographic on Earth, women in midlife!
It’s our drive for meaning that this is when we feel called to:
* Launch a business that aligns with their values.
* Change careers to something more purpose-driven.
* Mentor others, create communities, or build something lasting.
You don’t need to slow down. You need to realign, to build around what matters most now.
Legacy isn’t just what you leave after you’re gone. It’s how you live today.
* The relationships you nurture.
* The work you choose.
* The voice you use.
* The courage you show.
* The boundaries you set.
* The health you build for yourself.
Inside the summit, Wick Nixon shares why intermittent fasting could provide you with the health answer you’re looking for, and the healing properties that I had no idea about!
Legacy is in how you spend your time, your money, your energy. It’s in saying “I’m no longer available for things that don’t serve me.”
This is your permission to dream bigger, not smaller. Which is why my topic in the summit is Too Smart To Play Small, providing you the steps to realign your life after 40.
I encourage you to tune into the summit, I have curated the speakers and the topics specifically to challenge women in midlife to reflect and potentially think differently.
In the meantime, here are a few ways to start stepping into your legacy years with clarity and confidence:
1. Define your values. What do you care most about right now? Let this guide your financial and business decisions.
2. Set wealth goals that reflect your life stage. Maybe that’s starting a business, paying off debt, investing, or creating a new income stream.
3. Invest in yourself. Whether it’s coaching, learning new skills, or hiring support, you are your greatest asset.
4. Align your work with your purpose. If your current career or business doesn’t light you up, it’s not too late to pivot.
5. Think long term. Build with intention. Your work can outlive you.
Midlife is not the end of growth, it’s the beginning of depth. It’s the start of the chapter where you write the story you actually want to be known for.
You don’t need to play small. You don’t need to disappear. You have everything you need… experience, wisdom, and clarity to build wealth and a legacy that matters.
This is your time. Your legacy years are here. And they can be the most powerful years of your life.
