Life has a way of showing us the path we need to take.

Sometimes you find that you’re experiencing frustration, tension, a feeling that nothing is working in your life. These are all signals that you need to listen to, signs that something isn’t quite right.

Frustration, tension and overwhelm can be signals that you need to make a change. They can be signs that you need to take a leap and follow the path life is showing you.  If you ignore them, you’re potentially robbing yourself of the opportunity to be  present. So what are some of the common signals?

1. Wondering if there is more

How often do you spend your night lying awake with all sorts of things running through your head? Like a built in script you dance around various questions, why do I feel this way? But the one that really does keep you up - is this all there is? Surely there’s more to life than this - day in day out errand after errand, feeling tired and empty at the end of the day.

If this is you, then stop wondering and start articulating what’s showing up for you. Start a journal - write down what’s playing on your mind. Then write down two or three actions you can  take towards this.

2. Feeling resentful

Oh dear. Hands up, if this is you.  You give everything to your family. All your time and energy goes into ensuring they have everything they need. You are constantly trying to meet all their random wants. At the end of the day, you just lose your sh*t and want to scream!

We’ve all been there. We all do it occasionally. Completely lose our sh*t!

But in all honesty, we are our own worst enemies. Let’s face it, no one is going to give us more time and energy. No one is going to read our minds and suddenly understand that we’ve had enough. No one is going to hear our soul begging for more fulfillment in our lives. We have to make it happen for ourselves!

How? Start by taking back some time, allocate out the chores; say no to some of the random demands. Importantly, carve out a little moment for yourself, take that magazine and sit in the sunshine by yourself for 10 minutes, or go for a quick walk around the block. You will feel so much better for it. Don’t let it get to a screaming lunatic moment!

3. Constantly questioning yourself

Ok my friend, I am sharing a secret with you… you are amazing; you have brilliant skills; your strengths are what makes you special. I want you to remind yourself of this secret every, single, day.

Unfortunately, by the time we have the household sorted each day, and complete all of our errands, get the work done that needs to be done, we are tired and that's when nasty thoughts start creeping in. Thoughts of doubt, and feelings of guilt.

When you’re tired you doubt that you’re good enough. You doubt that you’re capable. You doubt that anyone wants what you can offer. Then you switch back to guilt. Feeling guilty that you’re not satisfied with life. Feeling guilty that you’re not always showing up the way you want to. Feeling guilty that you keep taking your own frustration out on your family.

Don’t let those two pillars draw you in - guilt and doubt. Stand up tall and recognise who you are and what you have to offer. It’s not always easy. But start by making a list of your skills and strengths. Highlight the ones that are important to you, the ones that will help you achieve your goal. Write down how you will use your skills and strengths. Just the mere fact you put pen to paper will help you regain clarity.

4. Struggling to get clear on your goals

Whether you want to learn a new skill. Start volunteering. Return to part time work. Get that promotion. Show up more for your family. No matter what your big why is, you need to write it down. You need to visualise it.

Once you are clear on what IT is, then you need to break it down into little steps so you don’t get lost. Make sure these little steps are really clear, that they are actionable. Then put them in your diary. Carve out time each week to work on it. Make it a priority and don’t give that time away.

Once you start, you will gain momentum and everything gets easier once the momentum starts!

5. Wondering if you’ve left it all too late

You can’t teach an old dog new tricks… or can you? Frankly, does it really matter? It is never too late to have a goal, to have a dream.  But why wait any longer? Start now.

Take on board each of the steps outlined above:

  • Write down your big why
  • Identify the actions you can take
  • Get clear on the skills and strengths you have and how you will use them
  • Carve out time each week that is your time, make it sacred and commit to it for yourself. Write it in your diary!
  • Start a journal. Don’t overthink it, just make a regular habit perhaps every sunday night, write down the things that are on your mind and what you can do about it
  • Set boundaries, for your family and for yourself. Don’t let it get to a screaming meltdown!

And most importantly, know that you’re not alone. We all go through phases where life is trying to show us the path we need to take, we just need to take the leap and follow it.

This was me at the end of last year, feeling frustrated, like nothing was working, in fact everything felt like hard work. I wasn’t listening to myself properly, and as a result I was feeling overwhelmed. Instead of a blip in my day, things like my daughter having a sore tummy felt like a mountain I had to climb. I worried more about the little things, because my life wasn’t in sync.

I knew it was time for something to change, but I didn’t know what that change looked like. I reached out for help and as a result I have made some big decisions. You may have noticed some big changes to my business starting with my new business name and focus, this is a result of realigning myself. Today, I am feeling empowered, I am feeling excited and I am ready for the path life wants me to take.

If you feel like you’re not in sync, if everything feels like a mountain to climb and you’re constantly overwhelmed and frustrated, then perhaps now is the right time for you to reach out for support, for inspiration to do it. Working with me can help you to take the leap and lead your life where you want to be.

If you’re wondering what your leap looks like, next week we will look at how you create your path, your vision.
